The famous
chilli from the French Basque Country, from which - and only there - the AOP (Protection designation of origin) Piment d'Espelette is made.
The medium heat fruits are 7 to 14 cm long, with a diameter of approx. 25 to 30 mm. They are somewhat squat, conical in shape and have a slightly rounded tip. When ripe, they have a bright vermilion colour; when dried, the colour changes to a dark red-brown. The plants are about 90 cm high and have a strong stem that branches bushy at a height of about 30 cm.
In the home country of these chillies, they are sown in troughs with growing soil from 15 February; the optimum germination temperature is 20 to 26°C. Plant out in the open as soon as frost is no longer to be expected. Flowering from about mid-June, harvest of the red fruits from about August to October (depending on the weather).
Package is sufficient for about 15 plants.
