Mexican spices - now it gets heater!

By far the most famous spice from Mexico is chili. But chili is not just chili. There are big differences. The South American country has even more to offer in culinary terms. Here you will find a small selection of Mexican spices, spice mixtures and sauces with which you can prepare real classics of Tex-Mex cuisine, among other things.o:p>

These spices are commonly used in the Mexican food:

When you say “Mexican dishes” you will directly think about chili. However, chili is a generic term for spicy. Yet chili is only a generic term for numerous species and varieties. The spectrum ranges from mild and sweet to really pungency. Other spices frequently used in Mexican food include cumin, garlic and paprika powder. Paprika and chili are also related.

These are our Mexican spices and spice mixes:

As I said before, Mexican dishes cannot do without very fiery chillies. In this South American country, different varieties of the spice maker have been cultivated since the Aztecs. The harvested chillies are then either dried whole and later ground into a fine chilli powder or smoked. One of these chili powders is made from the very hot and fruity Habanero. You can find the extremely hot powder of the Yucatan Habanero of course also in our shop. Pay attention with the use however absolutely to an economical dosage and avoid eye and hand contact. You should also make sure that these chilies do not get into children's hands.

If one type of chili is not enough for you, you can fall back on an aromatic triple pack in our shop. The composition called "Vivo Mexico" consists of the varieties Ancho Chili, Chipotle Chili and Guajillo Chili. With this set, you will definitely get three classics of Mexican food with which you can spice up casseroles, soups and sauces, for example. Compared to the Yucatan Habanero, the chillies in the triple pack are rather mild.

In addition to pure chilli varieties, we also carry delicious Mexican seasoning sauces (Mexican Mole) in our range. In Pepperworld, for example, you will also find the most popular Mexican mole, the mole Poblano. This is a spicy sauce made from chilli and tomatoes, which is refined with the sweetish-bitter taste of cocoa. This not only ensures an extraordinary brown colour, but also a harmonious taste between pungency, sweetness and acidity. The Mole Poblano is traditionally eaten with burritos and enchiladas, i.e. stuffed tortillas. The sauce, however, tastes just as good with rice, potato and vegetable dishes. Poultry meat, such as chicken, also tastes wonderful with Mole Poblano.

Another very tasty sauce from Mexico is the Salsa Chipotle. This salsa sauce is based on Chipotle Adobo (ripe tomatoes and smoked jalapeños). In terms of taste, this Salsa goes wonderfully with chili con carne or burgers, for example. Because of the smoky and slightly hot taste of Salsa Adobo it is also perfect for every barbecue.

Although not directly from Mexico, but the Pepperoncini are also matching with the Tex-Mex cuisine. This does not necessarily mean a special kind of chili, but the area of origin. Pepperoncini are cultivated in Calabria, the tip of Italy's boot. Although the distance to Mexico cannot be denied, the hot and aromatic chillies go perfectly with many Mexican dishes. We offer the Calabrian chillies in our Pepperworld range, which can be used internationally, in crushed form as flakes (Scaglie).

However, we do not only offer the Italian chillies in the form of flakes. You can also buy a finely chopped (macinato) powder of the Calabrian chillies in our shop. This powder convinces us by its sharpness, its colour and of course by its taste. All three characteristics are equally distinctive in this chili powder. This is naturally related to the types of chillies used. We use, for this fiery powder, which by the way is a great alternative to cayenne pepper, fruity chillies of the genus Capsicum Frutescens.

On our scale of hotness, the pepperoncini are in the upper third. This is why these chillies are so well suited to Mexican cuisine.

By the way: Pepperoncini are sun-ripened and are also dried under the sun.

For an authentic Mexican meal, don’t forget the beans! For Mexicans, beans play an important role in their daily diet, which goes far beyond the kidney bean. We have two bean products on offer for you. We have the brown bean puree on the one hand and the black bean puree on the other. Both varieties are rich in iron, fibre and protein. The black beans are smaller than kidney beans and less sweet. The brown beans are Bayo beans, which are fried with chilli and garlic and later pureed. Both bean dishes are eaten in Mexico for example with rice or chicken.

We like the fact that people in Mexico generally like to eat a little more pungency than here in Central Europe. This passion is also reflected in the spices and spice blends from our own brand World of Taste. The spice mixture Fuego Mexicana is also indispensable in the Mexican kitchen. This spicy-hot mixture is an all-rounder for Mexican meat dishes. Ingredients of this Mexican classic include chilli, cumin and smoked peppers.

Another all-rounder from the Mexican kitchen is Compa Mexicana - the fiery seasoning salt from Mexico. The possible uses of this salt are truly diverse. You can either grind it in a mill, use it as condiment or simply season all dishes that are supposed to get a typical Mexican taste. Like all other products from the World of Taste, the seasoning salt is free of any additives and is also tested for harmful substances by an independent test laboratory.
