The history of the barbecue
The history of the BBQ is associated to the "discovery" of America by the Europeans. When they first landed in Haiti, they watched the Indians cooking meat on a wooden grill over a fire pit. The name of this cooking method: "Barabicu" (sacred fire pit). On the way to the American continent, Europeans spread this method of cooking meat. Especially in today's North Carolina, which is considered the area of origin of BBQ, the technique is often used for cooking. At that time, mainly pork are cooked in this way, which would not exist in America without the Europeans. To this day, however, it is not clear whether the term barbecue (BBQ) is the further development of Barabicu, or whether the word has its origin in the French "barbe à queue", which is also a cooking method. What is certain, is that barbecue, almost as we know it today, was already practised in the "new world" in the 17th century. Since the beginning of the new millennium, BBQs have also become increasingly popular in Europe.
BBQ vs. Grill:
The biggest difference is in how you use the grill. A BBQ grill is not just a grate over an open flame (as is standard in this country), but a lockable appliance with a firewood chamber in which smoking is even possible. Another difference is the respective duration. If the grill usually goes quickly until the food is cooked, it can also take many hours for a BBQ, depending on the recipe. The long cooking times is another difference between traditional and BBQ grills. In the latter case, significantly lower temperatures are produced than is the case with normal grills. In most cases, the temperatures of BBQ grills are around 150° Celsius.
Due to the special construction (several grids, lids) almost all cooking methods are possible with a BBQ grill, whereas a conventional grill can only be used for grilling. The cooking methods that are possible with a BBQ grill include grilling, indirect grilling and baking. This variety allows a wide range of recipes for different dishes.
A very large selection of BBQ products
To be able to organize an original barbecue, you first need an appropriate BBQ grill. At Pepperworld we have a very large selection of different models. No matter if classic smoker, water smoker, electric or gas grill, you will surely find what you are looking for. In addition to the matching BBQ grills, we naturally also carry other BBQ accessories in our BBQ Shop.
For the authentic BBQ taste, the right ingredients are of course just as important as the grill. In our shop, you will find a large selection of rubs, spices, sauces and other ingredients. A particularly delicious BBQ sauce is, among other things, the BBQ honey Habanero Sauce from the manufacturer Hauptstadtgriller. The sauce really tastes as it sounds - hot with a slight sweetness. Other ingredients of this tasty BBQ sauce include tomato paste, maple syrup and cider vinegar.
A very special BBQ sauce - the roasted garlic BBQ sauce - also comes from the Hauptstadtgriller. The roasted aromas of garlic combine with tomato paste, coconut blossom sugar and apple vinegar to create an excellent BBQ sauce, which is perfect with fish and poultry.
At this point we would like to recommend our tasty BBQ sauces from Barrel 51. This traditional brand was founded in the USA back in the 90s. Meanwhile the brand Barrel 51 belongs to Pepperworld. However, the viscous sauces are still produced in the USA. In total, we carry 5 of the authentic BBQ sauces in our Pepperworld Shop. The Smokin'Chipotle Ketchup and the Smoky Bourbon BBQ Sauce are especially delicious.
What no BBQ should be without is a decent Rub, a dry marinade that is rubbed into the barbecue food. A very special of its kind is the South African Rub from our own brand World of Taste. In this delicious spice mixture, the aromas of chilli, pepper and ginger, among others, combine to form a fiery and delicious dry marinade. With all World of Taste products we make sure that no additives are contained in the product. In addition, the spice mixtures are tested for harmful substances by an independent test laboratory.
If you prefer the meat's own flavour for your BBQ and would only like to enhance it with a pinch of salt, we have the perfect salt for you - the steak and BBQ salt flakes from Ankerkraut. The Spanish rock salt is the perfect complement to the smoky taste of freshly grilled meat. Due to the underground reservoirs from which the salt comes to the surface with the ground water, this salt is particularly pure.
In addition to the right grills and ingredients, you will really find everything you need for a successful BBQ in our Pepperworld Shop. For example, we also carry various smoking woods, grill tongs or dressings for your side dishes. And if you ever run out of recipe ideas, you'll find great inspiration here. In our BBQ shop you will find everything you need for a perfect barbecue. In the following list, we have summarized for you what these things are:
TTypical class of an authentic BBQ
What the big five are on a safari, the BBQ is the so-called holy trinity. These are three very tasty classics of the American BBQ. What is meant by the theological metaphor are Pulled Pork, Spareribs and Beef Brisket. For these BBQ highlights, however, you will need many hours of time. The classics themselves are already extremely delicious, but with a little imagination, the dishes can be turned into delicious creations, such as a Pulled Pork Burger.
Similar to the European barbecue, various side dishes are of course also eaten at the BBQ. These side dishes often consist of salads, sauces and bread. Another side dish that is often served as a side dish at BBQ in the USA is the sweet potato. We have summarized which classics should not be missing on any BBQ:
- Pulled Pork
- Beef Brisket
The Pepperworld conclusion
Since the beginning of the new millennium, the American version of grilling, the barbecue (BBQ), has also been popular in Europe. The history of the BBQ goes back to the colonization of America. Native Americans grill their meat over a holy fire pit, the Barabicu. Whether the current name Barbecue is derived from this word is not completely clear. What is certain is that there are some differences between a BBQ and the European barbecue. For example, BBQs use special grills that allow many more cooking methods. The time factor is another difference. Since lower temperatures are achieved with BBQ grills, the cooking processes take correspondingly longer. If the BBQ passion has also grabbed you, you will find everything you need in our BBQ Shop. Our offer consists of special grills and delicious ingredients, accessories and the right spices and sauces. Classic dishes of an authentic BBQ are Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket and Spareribs. Salads, bread or sweet potatoes are often eaten as side dishes.
