Recipe: Fried Jalapenos slices  (for 4)

Jalapenos filled with cheese are a delicious starter or snack, which are not only available in the USA, but - at least in Mexican and trendy restaurants - also in this country, commercially among others in breaded form as "Poppers". The refined variant presented here comes wrapped in crispy bacon; the spicy morsels taste hot or cold - if there are any left over.


  • 0,5 kg Jalapenos (order here)
  • 175 g creamcheese
  • 250 g bacon


  1. Wash Jalapenos, cut them in half lengthwise and remove seeds and partitions.
  2. Spread the cream cheese into the pepper halves (either leave the pods halved or put two halves back together to form a whole pod).
  3. Wrap a strip of bacon about 10 cm long around half or rejoined pods, place in paper baking cups and place on a baking tray (alternatively, place baking paper underneath).
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at medium heat until the bacon is cooked through (the cheese boils out of the pods while baking, reduce temperature). This takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Then let it cool down and serve

Recipe Tipps

Exactly how much cheese you need depends on the filling quantity you prefer. Alternatively, you can also use low-fat cream cheese. And if you don't like cream cheese, you can of course also use another cheese for the filling (you can buy it in the meantime ready grated in a bag - meanwhile our favourite way of preparation).

Jalapenos themselves are - especially without seeds and partitions - mostly only medium hot. Therefore, if you want to spice up the stuffed pods, stir a little cayenne powder or hot sauce into the cream cheese or grated cheese.

The jalapenos in the bacon coat taste even better cold the next day. As a snack they go well with beer, wine and margaritas.

Tipp: Fill some habanero pods for the hard-boiled ones. Great taste, and the cheese reduces the pungency to a tolerable level!
