The smoky-sweet seduction to the delicious barbecue should not to be missed at most barbecue parties! Originally the delicious sauce originated from the USA, where it was industrially manufactured for the first time in 1948. One of the main ingredients in the BBQ sauce is ketchup. Therefore, it is close to the fact that the company Heinz produced the first BBQ sauce and distributed it all over the USA. In the normal "ready-made BBQ sauce" the main ingredients are ketchup, sugar, tomatoes, water and some flavors and additives. Since this is not necessarily healthy and isn’t the most tasty, we at Pepperworld have made it our mission to find the best BBQ sauces, which are made with 100% natural ingredients! This way we have come across some small manufactories that are doing everything themselves. All ingredients are fresh and even the smoky taste does not come from the typical (artificial) liquid smoke, but from a good whiskey or the hand-smoked chilis, which are added to the BBQ sauce.
If you also want to make your own BBQ sauce, you need the following ingredients: tomatoes, onions, vinegar, chilis, mustard, spices and for the sweetness some honey. The great thing is that you can vary with the ingredients according to your preferences. Do you like it sweet? Then just take a lot of honey, sugar or maybe some jam. If you like your barbecue sauce spicier, you can add from the different chili types or maybe Chipotles - for the smoky extra. There are no limits to your imagination, it is only important that you circle a recipe that tastes good to you!
There are 4 kinds of BBQ sauce:
- The typical, thickly liquid BBQ sauce on a tomato basis, which tastes rather sweet.
- The BBQ sauce, which is less thick and has a stronger vinegar flavor. This is served rather warm.
- The "white BBQ Sauce": This is very common and liked in Alabama, USA. The basis for this white BBQ sauce is mayonnaise - also a very tasty variation!
- In South Carolina, there is another regional variation of the delicious sauce: The South Carolina Mustard sauce. Through European immigrants the use of mustard was brought to the USA. This is how the vinegar mustard sauce came to life, which in this region is often served as a barbecue.

How to eat BBQ Sauce the right way and what can you eat with it?
As the name implies, the BBQ sauce is used for barbecue or grilling. They can be served cold or hot as dip. This way, anyone can take it and spice up in the desired amount. In addition, there are of course many other possibilities! How about marinating a good piece of meat with BBQ sauce? Another possibility is to marinate the meat over and over again with the sauce while it is on the grill. This way you get a nice crusty glaze and the meat becomes even more delicious. Of course, you can also make great BBQ burgers! Either one takes the BBQ sauce as a Burger sauce or one coats the Burger Patties with BBQ sauce. Of course, one can also take BBQ-Patties and BBQ-Burger sauce. By the way, also fish and seafood and many kinds of vegetables super good with BBQ sauce. Just try what you like best.
What is the difference between barbecue and grilling?
The BBQ belongs to the USA like the pizza to Italy and the baguette to France. Especially in the South West of the USA, the BBQ is very celebrated. There are tons of really good meat, which is glazed with BBQ sauce and then comes either into the smoker or on the grill. There are treats like for example a perfectly grilled corn and much more. Chilis are also a must for a good BBQ! A few stuffed jalapenos, even better with wrapped bacon, as a side dish and the typical BBQ is even better than it is anyway! The term "grilling" is more like the typical German or European grilling. Sausage, meat, a delicious potato salad and a little bread. Everyone has their own idea, what should not miss from a good barbecue evening. "Grilling" can also be attributed to other countries. In Spain, you would traditionally grill seafood and in Brazil there is the typical Churrasco - huge, juicy meat spits, which are only seasoned with a little salt. With the typical BBQ, one thinks immediately to the USA, because it originates from there. With the classical US BBQ, the perfect preparation of the meat is the main focus, and of course a great BBQ sauce! The meat comes best from the smoker and was marinated with BBQ sauce. This way you can say that the BBQ is typically American and is usually associated with meat.
