The Santa Fe Grande probably originates from the Jalapenos. It has conically tapered blunt fruits that grow to about 8 - 9 cm long.
It is a relatively early ripening variety, which is very popular in the southwest of the USA. The plants are richly bearing, grow bushy and reach a height of about 60 - 80 cm. The main cultivation area of the Santa Fe Grande is Mexico.
The thick-walled, shiny fruits have a somewhat milder hotness than jalapenos, their aroma is mild and sweet. They ripen beautifully from green to orange/yellow to bright red.
The chillies are suitable for fresh consumption, for filling, grilling, pickling, but also for medium hot salsas.
