The Bhut Jolokia (or Naga Jolokia) has become famous in the Guinness Book of Records as the hottest new variety in the world. She has maintained this position as the leader for a very long time, from 2007 - 2011.
Research by the Chile Pepper Institute in New Mexico showed a value of 1,001,304 SHU, making Bhut Jolokia the first chilli variety to pass the magic one million mark.
The cross between a Capsicum chinense and Capsicum frutescens originally comes from the Assam region in India.
The plants grow 50 - 120 cm high, the fruits reach a length of approx. 5-8 cm and a width of approx. 2-3 cm. They love warmth and humidity, but also grow very well in our climate, but they have a long growing season. From sowing to harvest can take as much as 160 days.
White Bhut Jolokia mature, in contrast to the reds, from green to creamy white and have a fruity aromatic taste.
