The Takanotsume grows protruding, filigree, strong and grows to approx. 50-60 cm in the open or pot. In the greenhouse, however, the variety also reaches heights of up to 130 cm.
Takanotsume has a lush foliage which, with its abundance of dark green, tapering leaves, forms a wonderful contrast to the upright, deep tomato red fruits. In the tub a very attractive solitary plant for your terrace or conservatory.
Our customers especially like this variety because of its practical feature that the fruits do not start rotting on the plant even when fully ripe. Instead, they dry out practically naturally, intensifying their aroma and pungency.
The approx. 4 - 6 cm long fruits are elongated, thin-walled and show an angled tip. They ripen in about 80 - 100 days from green to an appetizing, dark tomato red.
They have a good, non-typical chilli aroma with high pungency. The taste is slightly bitter and somewhat tart, with a subtle hint of almond aroma.
It is a part of Japanese culture to spice the dishes a little, so as not to cover but to emphasize the aroma that is inherent in the ingredients. Takanotsume is one of the few chillies used as a universal spice in Japan. It can be used fresh as a fiery addition. However, the most common use is as a powder or flakes in spicy spice mixtures. So why not use the Takanotsume to create your very own mixture!
Package is sufficient for about 10 plants.
