Africa contains currently 54 states. The territory extends from Morocco and Tunisia in the North, to South Africa in the South. All these countries have developed their own food culture. Especially the spices with them the locals enrich their dishes, are as diverse as the continent itself. In terms of taste, there is really everything from sweet to fiery. Discover the culinary treasures of this beautiful continent with our spices and spice mixtures from Pepperworld.

These are the most common spices from Africa:

Many of the African spices are since a long time in the European kitchen. The most famous and most common spices from Africa are, for example, nutmeg, cayenne pepper and coriander. In addition, cumin, cardamom and chilli are ingredients that are also popular in our food. Another spice from Africa, which is using more and more in Europe, is fenugreek. However, the triumphal progress of African spices does not only refer to Africa and Europe, but to the whole globe.

Even the salts from Africa are something special!

Have you ever heard of African pearl salt? It is a very special salt. Nevertheless, what makes this salt so different?

Since the seas almost exclusively surround Africa, it is obvious to extract sea salt. African pearl salt is a coarse sea salt from the Atlantic Ocean. Due to gentle drying under the desert sun, the pearl salt retains many important nutriments and minerals. The African pearl salt takes its name from the comparatively large salt crystals. Because of the size of the salt crystals, its then appreciate to use a transparent mill.

Another special salt from Africa is the Kalahari Desert salt coarse, which you can also find in our assortment. The unique thing about this salt is its origin. The Kalahari Desert Salt is extracted by hand from a natural salt lake. The age of the salt is also impressive; the natural salt is over 280 million years old. This is reflected in the very intensive taste. The grain size of the individual salt crystals is between one and three millimetres - the salt is therefore perfectly suited for a mill.

African spices made spice mixtures:

The most famous spice mixtures from Africa are Harissa, Chakalaka and the South African Rub. With the spice mixture Chakalaka, you can either make the sauce of the same name or flavour anything that can tolerate a little spice. It is similar with the South African Rub. You can use the spice mixture as a marinade for meat, as intended, or you can also season other foods with it. Harissa is a hot spice mixture, which is very widespread and popular throughout North Africa. Main ingredients of the mixture are coriander, cumin and chilli. The taste is rounded off by the nana mint, which is rather unknown in Europe.

The spice mixture Berber is also an African delicacy. This mixture has its origin in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Since the natural barriers shield the region, Berber has developed self-sufficiently. The fiery spice preparation consists of pepper, ginger, cayenne pepper and coriander, among other things. In terms of taste, the Ethiopian spice mixture Berber goes especially well with grilled and roasted meat. Another spice mixture from Africa is Tsire. This mixture is slightly hot, but at the same time a bit sweetish.

Tsire consists of pimento, ginger and cayenne pepper, among other things. The Tsire is used for example for the production of kebab, lamb dishes and for roasted white meat. You can season just about anything you can think of with this delicious spice mixture from Africa, even tofu. The Ethiopian spice mixture Decus (Ethiopian Decus) is also very tasty. This spice preparation tastes slightly nutty due to the ingredients used. Among other things, the mixture consists of sesame seed, coriander and caraway. These ingredients provide an aromatic taste, while the caraway and sesame seeds provide a little extra. Ethiopian Decus is particularly suitable for grilled and roasted meat. Also vegetables and fish taste fantastic with this traditional spice mixture from Ethiopia.
