"Cajohns Jalapina Salsa" [sic] is a sauce that combines pineapple with jalapeño, hence the so-called "portmanteau" between jalapeño and piña resulting in the name-giving jalapiña.
Admittedly, I was excited to try out this salsa but got disappointed a little. The expected fieriness was underwhelming, more like a mild 3 instead of a medium 5 on this shop's heat level scale. The sauce also lacked on pineapple taste, it was there, but just as the jalapeño and its heat, I expected it to be more in the foreground. Maybe I was unlucky with what batch my jar got picked from.
On the upside, the sauce still tastes good overall if you get over those unmet expectations. It is a herby salsa with a refreshing flavour. A mild heat level with pineapple flavour apparently supported by an array of herbs. Of course it goes well with the traditional tortilla chips and the nachos dish.
