It's no wonder that exotic chilli specialties are coming from Portugal
At the beginning of the 15th century, Portuguese seafarers began exploring the world, and former colonies such as Angola still dominate the country's cuisine today. Southwest African Angola was a Portuguese colony from 1484 to 1975. Early on, the sailors brought the residents hot chilies from the New World, which also thrived there magnificently.
Together with mild paprika, vinegar, sugar, garlic onions and regional spices, it becomes a puree that is used in Angola for seasoning, as in the Asian Sambal. Preparado Angolano is made with African chilies (including their seeds) following the traditional Angola recipe in Portugal; There, meat is spread over it before being put into the grill or oven. The spicy red paste is also great on cheese cubes or as a spread. Also recommended as a sambal to Far Eastern dishes.
