Asian spices essential in the Asian cuisine

When you think of Asian food, do you think of sweet-and-sour duck first? If so, it is not bad, but it's not entirely fair. Because the Asian cuisine is one of the most varied on our planet. Especially the countless spices and spice mixtures are an important part of this food culture.

Spices commonly used in Asia:

One of the most important spices of all comes from Asia - pepper. People used in Asian cuisine mainly green pepper (i.e. the unripe grains). However, black and white pepper are also used occasionally in Asian cuisine.

Another type of pepper, the Szechuan pepper, is not botanically related to the pepper plant, but tastes excellent and is often used in Asian cuisine. It is not without reason that this spice is also known as Japanese pepper.

Coriander is also very popular in the Asian food culture, as it is also native to some Asian countries. In Asia, this kitchen herb is almost the equivalent of our parsley. In Asian cuisine, coriander performs both a seasoning and a decorative function.

Lemon grass is also important in Asian cuisine. This plant is a sweet grass with wonderful, ethereal aromas. This seasoning goes particularly well with fish. But also all other dishes of the Asian cuisine taste wonderfully with lemon grass. Furthermore, the spice harmonizes wonderfully with coconut milk. Also available as a dry version, the name is also “sereh”.

IIn the Near East, there is a plant native to Europe, which has also been known for a long time. Its name is fennel. However, its use is different. While in Europe, it is mainly the healing effect of the plant that is appreciated, in Asia it is the spicy one. At the same time, the possibilities for its use in the kitchen are diverse. The best-known processing method is tea, but fennel is also suitable as a braised vegetable or salad, for example. In terms of taste, fennel goes especially well with fish, but also with game. .

Other Asian spices are:

Asia is the largest continent on earth. The area extends over several climatic zones and naturally includes several countries, for example Japan, China, India, Thailand and Indonesia. In all these countries a very special food culture has developed. This is one of the reasons explaining why, Asian cuisine contains so many different spices with fantastic flavours. Other spices from Asia include ginger, turmeric, sesame seed and chilli. The cliché that many flavour enhancers are used in Asian cuisine can be deliciously refuted with our products.

The most famous Asian spice mixture is curry!

From this abundance of spices and the associated tastes, very tasty spice mixtures have developed. However, one of the spice mixtures stands out: Curry. The mixture is known worldwide, although there is no uniform recipe for curry.

Besides the famous curry powder, there are of course other spice mixtures from Asia, which are now also very popular in Europe and the rest of the world. One example is the 5-spices powder. Although the name is not very creative, the spice mixture is all the more delicious. The 5 ingredients: star anise, Szechuan pepper, cinnamon cassie, fennel and clove are responsible for this.

Another Asian spice mixture is the WOK spice from Ankerkraut. The mixture consists of fennel, chilli and ginger, among other things. With this spice mixture, you can use all imaginable cooking methods of the wok. If you don't have a wok at hand, a pan is of course just as good.

Many of the spices from Asia develop their full power when they are added to the dish during cooking and removed again shortly before consumption. This is the case with cloves and lemongrass, for example. Other spices are excellent for making a rub, such as Szechuan pepper and chilli.
